Oslo holidays allow you to experience all the charms of this Scandinavian city and get a taste of Norwegian culture. Oslo, the capital of Norway and the largest city in the country, is located on the tip of a long fjord. It is an ideal destination for learning about the rich Viking folklore and culture of the region, as well as the modern day charms of an advanced culture.

There are a variety of intriguing medieval buildings in Oslo, interspersed with impressive modern architecture and lots of greenery for a city of its size. The trees seem to naturally extend into the city for the surrounding forest, and this design shows how much respect the modern culture has for its natural environment. There are many art galleries, museums and other cultural centers located around the city, with the Norwegian Folk Museum and the Edvard Munch Museum being highly recommended. Tourists can discover much about Scandanavian culture in Oslo, Norway, or in the Swedish capital city Stockholm which is another nearby Scandanavian city that is very accessible from Oslo.

Norway fjord cruises are a great way to enjoy villages like Balestrand. Fjord cruises feature day excursions to famous glaciers like the Boyabre, and also offer trip s to attractions like the Glacier Museum in Fjaerland. The picturesque town of Bergen is a good place to start and finish tours, and allow for easy overnights in Oslo.

A typical fjord tour may begin with an overnight stay in Oslo, where you can choose to tour the city. Travelers can take a scenic train journey from Oslo to Flam, and then an express steamer cruise of the fjord from Flam to Balestrand. A great place to stay in Balestrand is at Kvikne's hotel, where guests will enjoy buffet dinners during a two night stay. From here, a fjord cruise to the Jostedal glacier and a trip to the Glacier Museum are within easy reach.
